Friday Thoughts from Pastor Tim - January 3

Dear Church Family –

I was interested to read last week at worldnewsgroup.org,

“Humility is essential to discovery.  How can we learn something new if we believe we already know everything?  This year, scientists had to revise a number of claims that had become widely accepted in recent years.  Doctors faced the reality that some patients experienced serious injuries after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.  Providers around the world are realizing that puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones do more harm than good in children with gender-dysphoria, and that transgender activism has led to unhealthy experimentation with such treatments.”  (Lynde Langdon, 12/26/24)

Because God created the world, truth and reality prevail.  It’s as Winston Churchill famously said in his War Memoirs, “United wishes and good will cannot overcome brute facts. Truth is incontrovertible. Panic may resent it. Ignorance may deride it. Malice may distort it. But there it is.”

As we begin a new year, it’s a good time to re-evaluate our habits and ways of thinking.  Are our habits serving us well?  Are our guiding thought patterns conforming to reality?

I did some re-evaluating recently when I came across an article by Gordon MacDonald: “The Seven Deadly Siphons of Spiritual Power.”  See if any of these might be true of you.

1. Words without action.

2. Busyness without purpose.

3. Calendars without a Sabbath.

4. Relationships without mutual nourishment.

5. Personality without self-examination.

6. Natural giftedness without spiritual power.

7. Enormous theology without adequate spirituality.

This Sunday morning we’re going to talk about a thought-shift we all need to make.  We’ll be returning to our study of Joseph in the Old Testament and a big new start that he got in life.  See you then.

Because of Christ – Pastor Tim
