Friday Thoughts from Pastor Tim - January 31

Dear Church Family -

Today, I’m feeling the weight of grief…

Wildfires in our nation,

Plane crashes from our region,

Deep, touching trials in the lives of people we know.

It makes me all the more eager to hear our Bible Conference messages, “Strength for Hard Pressed Pilgrims – Words of Encouragement from 1 Peter”

Our Bible Conference runs Sunday through Wednesday, 10:30 each morning and 7 each evening.  Our speaker this year is Dr. Winfred Neely from Moody Bible Institute.  Dr. Neely is Vice President and Academic Dean of Moody Theological Seminary, and Professor of Old Testament, Biblical Interpretation, and Biblical Preaching.

God always seems to give us a fitting and pointed Bible Conference.  We need the living hope (1 Pet 1:3) and washing of the Word (Eph 5:26).

Each year during our Bible Conference, we invite local Pastors, Missionaries, and Christian Leaders to join us for our morning session, and then a special lunch session.  This is a way for our church to bless and build local Pastors and Leaders, and for our Conference speaker to especially encourage and shepherd our area Pastors and Ministry Leaders.  This year, over 70 have signed up!  I think of it as shining up the light of Christ in our community.  Thanks for your prayers and for greeting our guests on Tuesday morning.

Thanks to each one of you who will be hosting Dr. Neely for meals while he is with us.  And thanks for your eager interest in and response to God’s never-changing but ever-applicable Word.

I’ve chosen a new memory verse for us for the month of February.  It correlates with our Bible Conference theme, it speaks to the weight of grief we feel, and it has long been a personal anchor for me.  It’s 1 Peter 5:10.  “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

See you Sunday! – Pastor Tim
