Friday Thoughts from Pastor Tim - October 18

Dear Church Family –

Most of us in America are familiar with the separation of powers, and system of checks and balances, in our American government.  I think they got the idea from God.

God has designed three spheres of authority—the family, the church, and the government.  These three should support and facilitate each other but not encroach on each other’s areas of responsibility.

Government has been encroaching on the family for many years but it’s gotten worse in recent years.  Minors are allowed to have an abortion or transition their gender without parental consent or even knowledge.  Government schools want to be free to school children in transgender and LGBTQ ideology without parental protest or ability to opt their children out.  This is one of the grave issues at stake in the upcoming presidential election.

At Emmaus Church, it is one of our greatest joys to support and facilitate godly families, and be a place where the family can worship together, and grow together in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

“…be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:17-18)

This is one of the things I love about Youth Sunday at Emmaus Church!  It shows the strength of families and shows how the church and family work together to support and advance the same values and teachings and outcomes.

This coming Sunday is Youth Sunday at Emmaus Church.  Our High Schoolers will be doing all the aspects of the worship service—music, prayers, preaching, etc.  And after the service, our youth will be serving a great dinner for the entire church family!  It’s a great time.  It’s also a fundraiser for the annual youth work trip.  There will be an opportunity at the dinner to give an offering for the youth group.

Thank you so much for your love and support for Emmaus Church and Emmaus families.  We all need good families, we all need a good church, and we all need good government.  God knew we needed all three and He gave us responsibility in all three.

While living under a government and in a culture that is moving away from God’s view of church and family as fast as it can, Youth Sunday gives us a chance to celebrate, affirm, and strengthen God’s ways.  And remember, God’s will is good, and pleasing, and perfect! (Romans 12:2)

See you Sunday! – Pastor Tim
