Monday Thoughts from Pastor Tim - January 13

Dear Church Family –

Our hearts and prayers today are with the many victims of California wildfires.  According to the latest report I saw, over 12,000 structures have been destroyed including many churches.  A lot of you can remember when Emmaus church burnt down.  It reminds us that the real church is a gathering of God’s people, not a building.

Yesterday, the gathering of God’s people known as Emmaus Church met to worship and sing and pray and interact with God’s Word and encourage each other.  Thank you for contributing your gifts and joy and worship to the group.

“Life is not made of the dreams we dream, but of the decisions we make.”

I don’t remember when I first heard that but I know I needed it as a young collegian with big ideas but little commitment.

It’s not one or the other.  We need dreams—those things that motivate us, and draw us to excel and persevere; those things that give our lives purpose and sparkle.  We need ideas of how life could be better.

But dreams need something.  They need a decision to take the next step and do what is needed to make the dream a reality.

And that’s why we say, “Life is not made of the dreams we dream but of the decisions we make.”

So, yesterday in church we raised the questions:

What do you need to leave behind in 2024?

What has God given you to do this coming year?

“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)

Love in Christ – Pastor Tim
