Monday Thoughts from Pastor Tim - July 8

Dear Church Family –

Let’s give a shout-out to the Tractor Supply company.  On June 27th Tractor Supply announced, “We have heard from customers that we have disappointed them. We have taken this feedback to heart.”

After several years of pursuing “diversity, equity, and inclusion” goals, the company responded to their customers and announced that it would:

·       No longer submit data to the Human Rights Campaign

·       Eliminate DEI roles and retire current DEI goals while still ensuring a respectful environment

·       Further focus on rural America priorities including agricultural education, animal welfare, veteran causes, being a good neighbor

·       Stop sponsoring nonbusiness activities like pride festivals and voting campaigns

·       Refocus the team member engagement groups on mentoring, networking and supporting the business

·       Withdraw carbon emission goals and focus on land and water conservation efforts.

The Founding Fathers of our nation asserted in the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

We believe that and affirm that.

But Pride month is not about equal rights, it’s about special rights for sinful lifestyles.  Pride month and “diversity, equity, and inclusion” initiatives are exactly what Philippians 3:19 refers to when it says, “they glory in what they should be ashamed of.”

Cultural trends are loud and distracting.  I appreciate that Tractor Supply realized they had gotten distracted from their true mission and clientele and are willing to make adjustments.

We’re easily distracted.  Sensual things distract.  Popular things distract.  Worldly things distract.  Loud and shiny things distract.  Get-rich quick promises distract.  Self-serving things distract.

Our weekly times in church and daily times in the Bible draw us back from distractions.  Hearing from our brothers and sisters in Christ draws us back from distractions and back to our purpose of glorifying God, walking in truth, loving people, and sharing the gospel.

“For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit; but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts.” (1 Thessalonians 2:3-4)
