Monday Thoughts from Pastor Tim - March 3

Dear Church Family –

Have you been to the Grand Canyon?  It’s beautiful and breathtaking.  It’s also compelling evidence for the Biblical account of creation and the flood.

I just finished reading a short but compelling article “Young Earth Flood Geology in the Grand Canyon,” by John Whitmore, a professor at Cedarville University.  Here’s some highlights.

Questions for evolution:

If evolution is true, why don’t we see transitional fossils?

Why are there marine rocks everywhere, even in the middle of Kansas?

Why does the fossil record begin all at once, with hardly any fossils in the rock layers below?

A question for creationism:

If Noah’s flood happened as the Bible says, what kind of evidence would it have left in geology?

The answers merge.

If God created the animals there would not be any fossils of transitional forms.  And there are not.

If Noah’s flood covered the whole world, as the Bible says, you would expect to find marine rocks and fossils everywhere, and we do.

If Noah’s flood happened you would expect to find fossil evidence of sudden death, and we do.  That’s why fossils appear suddenly in the rock strata and not before.

These are some very basic lines of evidence for divine creation just as the Bible describes it.  If evolution is true, there are a lot of unanswered questions and things that don’t fit.  But the evidence does fit with divine creation.

Emmaus Church believes and teaches that God created the world and everything in it in seven 24-hour days.  This is foundational.

  • A biblical view of creation answers the gender issue.  God created us male and female.

  • It answers the question of where we came from.

  • It answers the question of meaning and purpose.  We are not accidents of time and chance.  We are creations of a loving and intelligent God.

  • It answers the question of who can tell us how to live.

  • It explains the beauty and majesty of the world, and the seasons, and all the systems needed for human life to thrive.

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host.

He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.

For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples.

The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.  (Psalm 33:6-12)

Thanks for your trust in God’s Word – Pastor Tim

Look in the sky tonight and tell me how many light years the stars are from earth.
