Dear Church Family –
Corrie Ten Boom spent time in a German concentration camp during World War II for harboring Jews to keep them from being killed. She saw her country change quickly and radically away from God’s ways and values. She left us some good advice as we face troubling change in our country. She said…
“If you look at the world, you will be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at God, you’ll be at rest.”
That’s one of the reasons why we have mid-week times of Bible study and prayer: to pause in the middle of the week to look to God.
So, we’re looking forward to meeting this Wednesday. There is a great line-up of choices this Fall and Winter. We hope you’ll pick one.
Adult Bible Studies - Seniors Bible Study at 3pm. Other studies at 7pm: a Women's Bible Study on 1 Samuel. Men's Bible Study on Ecclesiastes and Jonah. For those doing foster care and adoption, a class focusing on encouragement and prayer. A mixed group study on Blackaby's book "Experiencing God". A mixed group study on "Getting A Fresh Grip on Discipleship."
When ancient Israel faced an imminent threat of their country being taken over by godless ways, God gave them instructions that still apply to us today.
“Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16)
Let’s think about that for a minute:
“Stand” – As the Bible says elsewhere, “…continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard.” (Col 1:23)
“Look and Ask” – Inquire. Study. Dig in. And what should we be looking for and asking about?
“the ancient paths, where the good way is” – Biblical truth. Proven truth that has stood the test of time.
“walk in it” – live out the truth of God’s Word. Walk in the paths set out for us in God’s truth.
“and find rest for you souls” – This is where we find the peace we want and need in our troubled world: by standing in God’s truth, by looking and asking for God’s ways, and by walking in those ways when we find them.
“If you look at the world, you will be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at God, you’ll be at rest.”
