Wednesday Thoughts from Pastor Tim - January 29

Dear Church Family –

I’m excited about our Bible Conference starting Sunday and want to give you some details.  But first, some great culture news about Gen Z.

Over the last year I’ve been reading and hearing about a marked movement among Gen Zers toward God.  It’s very encouraging!

Gen Z is the generation of Americans born in the late 1990s through the early 2010s.  They are 15 to 30-year-olds.  This is the generation most affected by COVID and the generation known as “digital natives.”  And now they are becoming known as a generation that is turning away from progressive policies and turning toward God.  One Christian observer who works with young people in a national ministry said, “What we are seeing is nothing short of a generational realignment.  The Washington Post and MSNBC are out.  Podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience are in.  The rising generation has grown frustrated with the woke agenda and they’re looking for the truth.” (Jeff Myers, Summit Ministries)

I hope he’s right.  There is lots of evidence to support his optimism.  Here’s one example that I thought you might find encouraging.

Lola Sheen is the 19-year-old daughter of actors Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards. On January 3rd she was baptized!  In true Gen Z fashion, she posted her baptism video online.  With the video, she explained her reasons for getting baptized.  Here’s what she said.

“When I was in my deepest depression, there was a moment where I realized I hit rock bottom. I felt so lost and hopeless, and was just doing my best to make it to the next day. I just accepted my life was going to be like that forever and thought I would genuinely never laugh again. Until I met not only my Savior but my best friend, Jesus.

I can’t really explain it other than it was supernatural, but Jesus met me exactly where I was, and he forever became my sun. I began to trust Jesus with my life, when he chose me when no one else did and loved me when I didn’t feel worthy of love. He gave me a light when I couldn’t find my own and rescued me from the darkness. . . .

Jesus is the only reason why I’m here today and made my life worth living. I chose to get baptized at the beginning of this year because I made it through this year only by the strength of Jesus, and I am so happy to go into this next year after publicly declaring Jesus as my Savior. I am forever saved by his grace, through faith.”

Wow!  Praise the Lord!  God is at work.  His Spirit is still drawing people to Christ.

Now about Bible Conference.  I hope you can come Sunday through Wednesday, mornings at 10:30 and evenings at 7.  Our speaker this year is Dr. Winfred Neely from Moody Bible Institute.  Dr. Neely is Vice President and Academic Dean of Moody Theological Seminary and Professor of Old Testament, Biblical Interpretation, and Biblical Preaching.  He’ll be speaking on “Strength for Hard Pressed Pilgrims: Words of Encouragement from 1 Peter.”

We’ll see you there! – Pastor Tim

I'd like you pastor to define woke for me. Do you even know who Joe Rogan even is? Look up the GOP Jesus on youtube and get back to me.
