Wednesday Thoughts from Pastor Tim - March 27

Dear Church Family –

Yesterday morning, a container ship crashed into the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore.  The bridge collapsed into the river taking six people into the water with it.  Rescuers immediately began searching for survivors.  Why?  Because life is valuable and precious.

In an ironic juxtaposition, later yesterday morning the Supreme Court heard arguments about whether or not it is safe for a woman to have easy access to pills that result in the chemical death of the baby in her womb.  Last year, 63% of all abortions were pharmaceutical.

Life is precious, valuable, and worth extreme efforts to protect it and preserve it.  The only difference between a life in the womb or a life in the water under a collapsed bridge is location.

Human life is sacred and valuable because…

God created it in His image; something that is not true of plant or animal life.

Jesus died for it; so that we could have life and that more abundantly.

God built into us the impulse to live and to protect life.

Let’s pray for our Supreme Court justices as they consider this case.

Let’s pray for the families of the six people presumed dead in the Baltimore bridge collapse.

Let’s pray for Americans to recognize the value and beauty of life—all life, at all stages.

Let’s do what we can to add beauty and truth and value to our lives and the lives of others around us.

Let’s pray and work that others may come to know Christ whom to know is life eternal, (John 17:3).

Our regular Wednesday afternoon and evening prayer meetings will not meet today, but we will meet at 7pm Friday evening for a special Good Friday service to remember the death of Christ on the cross for us.

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days…” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
