How Can I Be Forgiven and Be Right with God and the World?

Our world is broken. It’s broken because individual lives are broken. Where can you find forgiveness, be made new, whole and clean? How can you get things right with God? How can I live a life of purpose, meaning, love, and joy?

GRACE
Heaven, forgiveness, being right with God, is a free gift. It cannot be earned or deserved. Ephesians 2:8-9 – “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”

PEOPLE
Human beings, you and me, are sinners and cannot save ourselves.
Romans 3:23 – “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

 

GOD
God loves us and doesn’t want to punish us, but He is also just and must punish sin. Jeremiah 31:3 – “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” Romans 6:23 – “The wages of sin is death.” God solved this problem by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, into our world.

 

JESUS CHRIST
Who He is: The eternal God-man. What He did: Died on the cross to pay for our sins and purchase our salvation which He now offers to us as a gift. 2 Corinthians 5:21 – “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” Romans 6:23 – “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. We can receive this gift by faith.

 

FAITH
What it is not: Mere intellectual assent.
What it is: Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for my salvation. Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

 

THAT IS WHAT WE CALL THE GOSPEL

If that makes sense to you, you can receive Christ’s gift of salvation, purpose, forgiveness, by telling God  something like this: “Lord Jesus, I know I’m a sinner. Please forgive me and come into my life  and save me.”  It’s not the words that save you, it’s the trust and change of your heart. Who Jesus Is

Jesus is God's promised deliverer who came to deliver people from satan and sin, bringing them back into a good relationship with God. Jesus did this by living a morally perfect life and dying on the cross to satisfy God's justice. Because Jesus is both God and man, His sacrificial death is able to pay everyone's debt to God. Jesus' death wasn't the end of it though. God raised Jesus from the dead, proving that Jesus' death satisfied God's justice, that He was God's deliverer, and was fully God as well as fully man.

Why We Need Him

Have you ever done something that you knew was wrong? Or maybe you did something that later you found out was wrong. That means you broke God's ways and laws which are intended to bring about peace and prosperity for all. In the same way that when you break the law that the government has put in place, you face punishment, so too when you break God's laws, there will be punishment for it. Unlike the government, God's justice can't be cheated. But God is also gracious and through Jesus Christ has made a way for His justice to be satisfied while setting you free from punishment. You are guilty and maybe you feel shame or fear. Well there is good news! Because of Jesus, we can be cleared of guilt, our shame taken away, and we can enjoy God's powerful protection! So, what must you do for that to happen - to be saved? All you have to do is repent and believe in Jesus (Mark 1:15; John 3:16-21, 6:40; Acts 16:30-31)!
